Pricing, timescales, ownership, payment terms, changes mid-project, what happens after launch, and how to cancel a service.
Getting started
04Send a project enquiry through the contact page or telephone us on +44 7848 457256. The enquiry form is structured so that we understand the shape of the work before we speak: what you are trying to achieve, what exists today, the budget range you have in mind and how soon you need it.
We then arrange an initial conversation, usually 30 to 45 minutes, to understand the requirement properly. If the work is a fit, we follow up with a written proposal setting out scope, approach, deliverables, pricing and timescale.
It is a working discussion rather than a sales call. We ask about the process or product involved, the systems already in use, who will use the software, what currently goes wrong, and what a good outcome looks like in practical terms.
You do not need a specification. If you arrive with a clear brief we will test it; if you arrive with a problem and no solution in mind, defining the solution is part of what we do.
Yes. MVP and digital product development is one of our defined services, and it is designed for exactly this situation: proving an idea with a working product rather than a prototype that cannot become the real thing.
We will be direct about scope. The most common mistake in a first release is building too much, and we would rather help you launch a smaller product that works than a larger one that stalls.
Yes, where the requirement suits professional software development or technology advice. Typical examples include an individual developing a digital product, a sole trader who needs a bespoke tool for their work, or someone who needs impartial advice before commissioning a larger piece of work elsewhere.
The same process, documentation and pricing structure applies. If a request is better served by an off-the-shelf product, we will say so.
Projects
04It depends on scope, but as broad guidance: a focused automation or integration piece commonly runs four to eight weeks; a first release of a web application or internal platform commonly runs eight to sixteen weeks; a consultancy engagement commonly runs two to five weeks.
These are indicative ranges rather than promises. Once the scope is agreed we provide a timescale specific to your project, with the stages and review points set out in writing.
Yes. A large part of our work involves existing systems — extending them, connecting them to other tools, modernising them, or assessing them before a decision is made.
We begin with a review of the current codebase, data and hosting arrangement. Where source code or documentation is unavailable, we say clearly what that means for the options and the risk.
On full payment of the agreed fees, ownership of the bespoke software written specifically for your project transfers to you, together with the source code.
Third-party components, open-source libraries and existing Veloriq tooling remain under their own licences, which we will identify in the proposal. Nothing we deliver depends on a licence you cannot see.
Yes. We work in short cycles with a regular review point, and you get access to a working version of the software rather than a status report describing one.
You will have a named point of contact throughout, and you deal directly with the people doing the work.
Pricing
04Consultancy engagements start from £1,500 and development projects start from £2,000, depending on the service. Every service page shows its own starting figure.
Final pricing depends on scope, complexity, the number of integrations, data migration, non-functional requirements such as security and performance, and your delivery timeframe. We quote a specific figure for a specific scope rather than an open-ended rate.
Because tailored software is not a product with a shelf price. Two projects that sound alike can differ several times over in effort once integrations, data quality and compliance requirements are understood.
Publishing a starting figure lets you judge quickly whether we are in the right range, without a discovery call that exists only to reveal the price.
For a defined scope, yes. We provide a fixed quotation against a written scope, and that figure does not move unless the scope changes.
Where the requirement is genuinely uncertain at the outset, we may propose a short paid discovery stage first, priced separately, so that the main quotation can be given with confidence.
Third-party costs such as cloud hosting, domain names, email delivery, SMS and payment processing are billed by those providers directly to you, and we set them up in your own accounts wherever possible.
Ongoing support or continued development from Veloriq is optional and quoted separately. There is no compulsory retainer.
Development
03We select technology to suit the project rather than applying one stack to every problem. In practice this usually means established, well-supported web technologies, relational databases, mainstream cloud hosting and documented APIs.
We deliberately avoid unusual or short-lived frameworks for business systems, because the choice affects who can maintain your software in five years.
Testing is part of development rather than a stage bolted on at the end. That includes automated tests for important logic, manual testing of user journeys, cross-browser and responsive checks, and a structured user acceptance stage where your team tests against the agreed scope.
We also test the unglamorous cases: permissions, error states, invalid data and what happens when an integration is unavailable.
In most cases, yes. Where a system provides a documented API we integrate directly. Where it does not, we look at supported export and import routes, database-level integration where permitted, or scheduled file exchange.
The first step is always a technical review of what the system genuinely allows, because vendor claims and available interfaces are not always the same thing.
Consultancy
02A consultancy engagement is scoped around a decision you need to make. We agree the question, the information we need, who we should speak to, and the form the output should take.
You receive a written deliverable — an assessment, options with costs and risks, an architecture, or a roadmap — plus a session to work through it with your team. Consultancy does not oblige you to commission development from us.
Yes. Deliverables are written to be usable by any competent supplier, and several clients specifically want an independent assessment or specification before going out to tender.
If our recommendation is that you should not build something, or should buy an existing product instead, we will say so in writing.
Payments
02For most projects we invoice in stages: a deposit to schedule and begin the work, one or more interim payments tied to agreed milestones, and a final payment on delivery. Shorter consultancy engagements are usually invoiced on completion.
Terms are set out in each quotation. We invoice in pounds sterling, and can invoice EU business clients where appropriate.
By bank transfer to the account shown on the invoice. Payment details are provided with each invoice and never change by email without a telephone confirmation from us.
If you ever receive a message that appears to come from Veloriq asking you to pay a different account, telephone +44 7848 457256 before acting on it.
Project changes
02Raise it with your point of contact at any time. Small refinements that do not affect scope are absorbed as part of normal iteration.
Where a change alters agreed scope, we set out in writing what it involves, the effect on price and the effect on timescale. Work on that change begins once you approve it, so cost never moves without your agreement.
It happens, and it is usually a sign that something useful has been learned. We pause, re-scope the remaining work, and issue a revised plan and quotation for the change.
Work already completed is chargeable, and we will always show you what has been delivered against what was agreed before revising anything.
Support
02Delivery includes a defined post-launch period during which we correct defects in the delivered scope at no charge. The length of that period is stated in your quotation.
Beyond that, you can arrange ongoing support, scheduled maintenance or continued development. You can also take the source code and documentation and maintain it yourself or with another supplier.
Yes. Handover typically includes source code, deployment and environment documentation, database structure, integration details, credentials transferred securely into your own accounts, and a walkthrough with the people who will run the system.
Where useful we also provide short user documentation or recorded walkthroughs for your staff.
Cancellations
02Cancellation requests should be made by telephone on +44 7848 457256. Speaking to us directly means we can confirm the current stage of work, what has been completed, and what the practical effect of cancelling will be.
We then confirm the outcome in writing. Full details are set out on our cancellation policy page.
It depends on the stage reached. Work already completed is chargeable, and third-party costs already incurred on your behalf — licences, cloud services, purchased components — are generally not recoverable.
Where a deposit exceeds the value of work completed and costs incurred, the balance is returned. We set out the calculation clearly rather than applying a blanket rule.
UK & EU clients
03Yes. Our primary market is the United Kingdom and we also work with businesses based in European Union countries. Engagements are conducted in English and delivered remotely, with video meetings at times that suit both sides.
We do not maintain offices outside the United Kingdom. Our registered office is 17 Station Parade, Harrogate, England, HG1 1UF.
Invoices are issued by VELORIQ SOFTWARE LTD, company number 17384626, in pounds sterling. The correct VAT treatment depends on the client’s status and location, and is confirmed at quotation stage.
We recommend EU business clients confirm their own local accounting treatment for services purchased from a UK supplier.
Most work is delivered remotely, which keeps costs proportionate and lets us schedule work efficiently. For UK clients we can attend on site for discovery workshops, stakeholder sessions or delivery reviews where that genuinely helps.
On-site attendance and associated travel are quoted separately and agreed in advance.
Still have a question?
Telephone us and ask. We would rather spend ten minutes answering a question than have you submit an enquiry for work that turns out to be unsuitable.
